Administrative Assistant/Bookings Manager Temporary Maternity Leave Position
Do you love the environment and working as part of a team? The Fluvarium is looking for an enthusiastic, detail oriented people person who is able to multi-task to fill a temporary maternity leave position as Administrative Assistant/Bookings Manager.
The Quidi Vidi/Rennie’s River Development Foundation (QVRRDF) through education, advocacy and stewardship inspires the protection, conservation and enhancement of freshwater ecosystems of the Northeast Avalon region of Newfoundland and Labrador. The QVRRDF operates The Fluvarium as a public centre for environmental excellence located in Canada’s largest urban park.
The position is responsible for the following duties:
- Answering phone calls, screening and directing to appropriate people
- Accounts Payable
- Accounts Receivable including but not limited to
- Donor management including tax receipts
- Taking and managing all catering bookings
- Coordinating with Executive Chef/Catering Manager on all catering bookings
- Greeting visitors and running front desk cash including admissions, gift shop
- Maintain office supply inventory
- Order janitorial and kitchen supplies as needed and requested
- Communicating with cleaners and maintenance staff
- Attending Occupational Health And Safety meetings
- Assist with all aspects of all fundraising activities
- Monitor social media and respond appropriately to messages.
- Assist with social media posts for all aspects of the building
- Assist the General Manager in day-to-day operations
- Other related duties
Qualifications would include having a post-secondary degree in business administration, or one to two years of relevant experience. WHSCC certification and first aid certification would be an asset. Candidates should also possess strong people skills, the ability to work independently, have exceptional organization skills and be a team player.

Add some glitz to your night out on the town and be our guest at the Beauty and Beast Opening Night Gala! It all starts at 5:30 PM on November 8th with some pre-show appetizers and drinks at The Fluvarium. Then you’ll be whisked away by horse and carriage (and by “horse and carriage” we mean motorized vehicle!) to the great castle of Bonaventure Avenue (Holy Heart Auditorium) and some special VIP seating.
And the night doesn’t end there! After an amazing show, it’s back to The Fluvarium for a special meet and greet with the cast over delicious desserts and beverages.
The Beauty and the Beast Gala only costs $100 and all proceeds go to support the Lords of Flora and Fauna (The Fluvarium)!

Seeking Environmental Interpreters
The Fluvarium, an interpretation and environmental education center, located in St. John’s, is seeking enthusiastic, outgoing individuals who enjoy public interaction, for Environmental Interpreter positions for the up-coming summer season.
The ideal interpreter(s) will process a background in biology/education, have great customer service skills and previous cash experience.
Duties will include significant interaction with the public; interpreting and delivering public education programs, providing information on the exhibits/ displays and Receptionist/Cash duties. Hours of work will include both weekdays and weekends.
Please Note: As these are externally funded positions, applicants are required to be students and intend to return to school for the next academic year.
This position is being advertised under the Student Summer Employment Programs (SSEP). There are two separate programs; one is aimed at employing post-secondary students called “SSEP – Post-Secondary” and to be eligible, students hired as part of the SSEP- Post-Secondary program must be entering or returning to Post-Secondary training within the next year and must be legally entitled to work in Canada. The second program is aimed at employing high school students and is called “SSEP – High School” and students hired as part of the SSEP-High School program must be enrolled in Level I, II, or III during the relevant school year and must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
